Do I need to buy tickets in advance?

Advance purchase is strongly recommended, as space is limited per tour. To maximize your chances of getting the tour, day, and time you prefer, please book well in advance. Tickets can be purchased using a Visa, Mastercard, Discover, or American Express online or over the phone during business hours (Apple and Google Pay is available for online  purchases). When you arrive, you will collect your tickets in the gift shop. Please call for same-day reservations.

What is the main difference between the tours? Which one should I take?

We offer a variety of tours which vary by duration and sights seen. While there is some overlap in terms of the areas seen, each tour is very different. In general, our most popular tours are the Highlights Tours and In-Depth House Tours, which run the most often. Our 4-hour Estate Tour is  the most comprehensive tour of Taliesin and is offered once daily. If you are short on time, consider taking the Highlights Tour, which combines overviews of both Taliesin and Hillside Drafting Studio into a 2 hour and 15 minute tour. Please refer to our calendar for our daily tour schedule. Learn more about each of our tour offerings here.

Where and when should we arrive for our tour?
The meeting location is the Frank Lloyd Wright Visitor Center at 5607 County Rd. C, Spring Green, WI. Please arrive 20 minutes prior to your ticket departure time (15 minutes for the Estate Tour) to collect your tickets. From there, you will board one of our Taliesin shuttle buses, which will leave promptly at their scheduled tour times.

Are there any age limits? Can we bring our kids?

Yes, children ages 8 and older are allowed on tours. As parents, you should use your best judgment as to whether your child will enjoy the tour.

I have reciprocal benefits with another Wright organization and received a complimentary 1-Hour House tour ticket. Can I apply the cost of this tour towards another ticket type?

Unfortunately, the value of the tour cannot be applied to other tours.

What about inclement weather?

Tours will run rain or shine. Except for the house, most of the buildings on the Taliesin estate do not have heat or air conditioning. We suggest you check the forecast and dress appropriately for the weather as our tours go out regardless of conditions.

Can we explore Taliesin on our own or do we need to take a tour?

The Taliesin property is privately owned and is therefore accessible only on a guided tour. The Frank Lloyd Wright Visitor Center, which houses the Taliesin Gift Shop and the Riverview Terrace Cafe, is free of charge, but guests must have tour tickets to visit the remainder of the property. The Frank Lloyd Wright Visitor Center is open to the public every day from May 1st through October 31st and on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays in April and November.

How will we get to Taliesin from the Frank Lloyd Wright Visitor Center?

Part of the tour includes a short 5-minute drive to the property and back from the Frank Lloyd Wright Visitor Center in one of our climate-controlled shuttles. On the drive to the property, your tour guide will provide narration along the way.

How much walking or standing will there be? Will I be able to sit down?

Introductory House Tour: Other than during the shuttle ride, guests will be standing or walking for most of the tour. After a brief walk through the courtyards, the remainder of the tour is spent inside the house. Please note that we walk at a casual pace and will be traversing on some uneven terrain, including gravel walkways and grassy areas.

In-Depth House Tour: Other than during the shuttle bus ride, guests will be standing or walking for most of the tour. Generally, the first 25 minutes are spent exploring the gardens and courtyards, and the remainder of the tour is spent inside the house. Please note that we walk at a casual pace, and will be traversing on some uneven terrain, including gravel walkways and grassy areas.

Highlights Tour: Approximately 15 minutes of the tour is spent on the shuttle, which includes a short ride through the property to get from the Hillside Studio & Theater building to Wright’s home, Taliesin, as well as transportation back and forth from the Frank Lloyd Wright Visitor Center.  Therefore, for the majority of the tour, guests will be standing or walking. Please note that we walk at a casual pace, but will be traversing on some uneven terrain, including gravel walkways and grassy areas.

Estate Tour: Guests should expect to be standing or walking for most of this tour, and guests are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes since the tour includes an approximately 1.5 mile walk from the Hillside Studio building to the home. However, there will be a few opportunities to sit during the tour. Approximately 10 minutes of the tour is spent on the shuttle, which brings guests back and forth from the Frank Lloyd Wright Visitor Center. Guests will also have a chance to sit about halfway through the tour while enjoying light refreshments at Taliesin’s terrace. Please note that we walk at a casual pace, and will be traversing considerable hills, and uneven terrain, including gravel walkways and grassy areas.

What should I wear? What should I bring?

We recommend being prepared for the day’s weather and wearing comfortable clothing and shoes. Please note that there are gravel walkways that connect the buildings, so be sure to wear appropriate shoes. In terms of what to bring, only water bottles are allowed on tour. Please leave bags and backpacks in your car.  We generally find the fewer items you carry with you, the more comfortable you will be.

Are restrooms available along the tour?
While there are no restroom breaks on the tour (except for the Estate Tour) there are restrooms available in case of emergency. We recommend using the facilities at the Frank Lloyd Wright Visitor Center prior to departure so that you don’t miss part of your tour.
