Tucked into the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Riverview Terrace, also known as the Frank Lloyd Wright Visitor Center and just a stone’s throw from the café that’s the only existing restaurant designed by Wright, lies another way to make the most of your time at Taliesin. The Wright Gift Shop, which was newly renamed, opened in 1993 and began primarily as a bookstore.

Today, you’ll discover a wide array of products and souvenirs, ranging from $1 to just under $3,000, including magnets, linens, pillows, lamps, candles, puzzles, scarves, T-shirts, and a whole lot more.

As a self-proclaimed Frank Lloyd Wright devotee, I love all things mid-century modern. Hence, this gift shop called me in the moment I walked through its doors. Wright was a trailblazer when it came to modern designs that prevailed throughout the 1950s and 60s—using clean lines, geometric shapes, and natural materials—and these elements could be seen throughout the shop’s home decor, from coffee table books and clocks to old-fashioned drinkware, kitchen linens, and more.

Gift Shop Manager Suzanne Powers says that she works with over 80 vendors to ensure a wide range of products. After a tour, guests want to bring home souvenirs and gifts for family and friends. Since touring Taliesin is such an immersive experience, adding a touch of Wright’s aesthetic to your own home can easily recall those memories.

As Powers says, “guests are thrilled when they have an opportunity to take home a reminder of their experience.”

Gifts with a Mission

While one could head online to buy Frank Lloyd Wright-related books and wares, there’s something special about purchasing an item directly from The Wright Gift Shop—and that’s supporting Taliesin Preservation’s mission. Every purchase supports preservation, programs, and the local community by providing jobs and economic development.

“The mission of the gift shop is to help support our organization in revenue generation for the preservation of Taliesin,” says Executive Director Carrie Rodamaker. “We believe that the gift shop is an extension of one’s visit to Taliesin.”

More specifically, every gift shop purchase helps to preserve Taliesin and all its properties on the 800-acre estate. It also supports preservation of this building—Riverview Terrace—which was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2024 and houses the only remaining Wright-designed restaurant in the world.

The Shop’s Roots

Riverview Terrace did not house a gift shop until the 1990s. Before then, the building operated as The Spring Green restaurant, and the gift shop’s current location was a bar and lounge for the restaurant. The impressive fireplace that still resides in the shop was once the go-to spot for skiers coming from the local ski hill, looking to warm up next to the fire. The bar still stands today, now acting as the shop’s check-out counter. It was originally designed so that the bartender stood lower down to not obstruct the view of the water outside the wide expanse of windows.

In 1993, Riverview Terrace was acquired by Taliesin Preservation to serve as the Frank Lloyd Wright Visitor Center.

“Because our unique setting is an actual Frank Lloyd Wright-designed building, we have the advantage of enhancing the store with reminders of him everywhere you look,” Powers notes. “We use the amazing views and built-in cabinetry to beautifully display our items.”

Curated Items

Showcased in a shop impeccably staged by a staff member with extensive experience in the field, it should come as no surprise that The Wright Gift Shop was featured in the March 2025 edition of Better Homes & Gardens in a section dedicated to must-see museum gift shops across the country.

The shop sells home decor rarely found in other stores, such as the line of handmade laser-cut items made in the USA. “They manufacture the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed floor and table lamps, which are replicas of the same lamps seen in Taliesin,” Powers says. “They also provide us with laser-cut wood items including nightlights, trivets, box lights, and ornamental pieces all representing Frank Lloyd Wright designs” at a variety of price points.

You’ll spy one of the original lamps in Wright’s personal drafting studio at Taliesin during your tour—and replicas of the Taliesin Floor Lamp 2 can be found in the gift shop.

The Wright Gift Shop also sells merchandise and replica prints of the Hillside Theater Curtain, featuring a wide array of colors and geometric shapes. “After the incredible Hillside Theater curtain restoration, guests are inspired to bring home merchandise featuring the curtain to remind them of its amazing beauty,” says Powers.

Powers shares that The Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, based in Arizona, works with a wide range of vendors to provide licensed products related to Frank Lloyd Wright’s designs and vision. “We purchase many items from those vendors and also work with local companies to add Taliesin-specific products that are exclusively ours,” she says.

Some of the exclusive items include pottery, jewelry, paintings, notecards, postcards, and candles crafted by local artisans.

Even though Wright’s designs are certainly mainstays and convey a feeling of timelessness, the gift shop is consistently adding to its goods. Rodamaker shares that every year, staff learn from the customers what they would like to see offered. “We listen to our vendors, research sales data, identify new items, and make decisions each year to keep improving,” she says.

Powers shares that they are conscious of their pricing and work hard to keep items affordable for all budgets. She goes on to reflect on the shop and the efforts that are made, saying, “We have an amazing staff who are dedicated to sharing their passion of keeping Frank Lloyd Wright’s dream alive.”

Glowing beautifully in my dining room against my dark slate accent wall, I purchased the “Robie Sconce” Night Light, which matches my home’s wood accents and mid-century details. Each time I see it in the distance, I am instantly taken back to my visit to Taliesin. It’s truly a wonderful reminder of my experience, and I love being able to add a touch of Wright’s aesthetic to the comfort of my own home.
