Accessibility

Taliesin is committed to making its tours as accessible as possible. Some areas of the property present challenges due to historic preservation and the natural landscape, but accessible tour options are available with advance notice. We strongly encourage guests with accessibility concerns to contact us before purchasing tickets so we can help identify the tours best suited to your needs.

Accessible tours must be arranged at least three weeks in advance. To discuss your options or schedule an accessible tour, please visit our accessible tours page to start the booking process or call us at (608) 588-7900 Ext. 223. We’re happy to assist you.

Cafe

We invite you to visit the Riverview Terrace Café, located within our Visitor Center.

Enjoy a seasonally inspired menu featuring locally sourced ingredients, hearty sandwiches, fresh salads, and ice cream—all served with stunning views of the Wisconsin River and Frank Lloyd Wright’s world-renowned architecture.

No reservations are needed. Just stop by before or after your tour to relax and refuel in a space designed by Wright himself.

The regular tour season runs from May 1 through October 31. In April and November, we offer guided House Tours on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Visit our tour page to book a tour.

Private tours of the house can be scheduled year-round. For more details or to book a private tour, please contact us at (608) 588-7900 Ext. 239 or visit our private tour page.

Part of your visit includes a short 5-minute shuttle ride to and from the Taliesin property, departing from the Frank Lloyd Wright Visitor Center. All shuttles are climate-controlled for your comfort.

On guided tours, your tour guide will provide narration during the ride. On self-paced tours, an audio narrator will share insights and stories along the way.

The Taliesin property is privately owned and is therefore accessible only on a guided tour. The Frank Lloyd Wright Visitor Center, which houses the Taliesin Gift Shop and the Riverview Terrace Cafe, is free of charge, but guests must have tour tickets to visit the remainder of the property. The Frank Lloyd Wright Visitor Center is open to the public every day from May 1st through October 31st and on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays in April, November, and select weekends in December.

Yes, children ages 8 and older are allowed on tours. As parents, you should use your best judgment as to whether your child will enjoy the tour.

Service animals are welcome. Other pets are not permitted on tours. Also, please note there is limited shade in our parking lot, and pets should not be left in vehicles while on tour.

Self-Paced Tour (Duration: 60-90 min): Other than during the shuttle ride, guests will be standing or walking for most of the visit. After a brief walk through the courtyards, the remainder of the self-guided tour takes place inside the house. While guests are free to explore at their own pace, please be aware that some areas include uneven terrain such as gravel walkways and grassy surfaces.

House Tour (Duration 1 Hour 30 Minutes): Other than during the shuttle bus ride, guests will be standing or walking for most of the tour. Generally, the first 25 minutes are spent exploring the gardens and courtyards, and the remainder of the tour is spent inside the house. Please note that we walk at a casual pace, and will be traversing some uneven terrain, including gravel walkways and grassy areas.

Highlights Tour (Duration: 2hrs 30min): Approximately 15 minutes of the tour is spent on the shuttle, which includes a short ride through the property to get from Wright’s home, Taliesin, to the Hillside Studio & Theater building, as well as transportation back and forth from the Frank Lloyd Wright Visitor Center. Therefore, for the majority of the tour, guests will be standing or walking. Please note that we walk at a casual pace, but will be traversing some uneven terrain, including gravel walkways and grassy areas.

Estate Tour (Duration 4 Hours):
Guests should expect to be standing or walking for most of the tour, so comfortable shoes are strongly recommended. There will be a few opportunities to sit throughout the experience.
Approximately 15 minutes of the tour is spent on a shuttle, which transports guests between the Frank Lloyd Wright Visitor Center, Hillside, and Taliesin. About halfway through the tour, guests will have a chance to sit and enjoy light refreshments at the Hillside Dining Room.
The tour is conducted at a casual pace but includes considerable hills and uneven terrain, such as gravel walkways and grassy areas.

Yes, private tours are available year-round. To set up a private tour, please contact Sally Monroe-Tockes: smonroe@taliesinpreservation.org

Yes, in addition to offering tours to the general public, we also welcome organized groups of 15 guests and up. We can customize your experience by adding a group lunch in the Riverview Terrace Cafe to any of our tours. To set up a group tour, please contact Ola Shepard at groups@taliesinpreservation.org.

Ola Shepard, Group Tours Coordinator: groups@taliesinpreservation.org

While there are no restroom breaks on the tour (except for the Estate Tour) there are restrooms available in case of emergency. We recommend using the facilities at the Frank Lloyd Wright Visitor Center prior to departure so that you don’t miss part of your tour.

We recommend being prepared for the day’s weather and wearing comfortable clothing and shoes. Please note that there are gravel walkways that connect the buildings, so be sure to wear appropriate shoes. In terms of what to bring, only water bottles are allowed on tour. Please leave bags and backpacks in your car.  We generally find the fewer items you carry with you, the more comfortable you will be.

Guests are shuttled from the Frank Lloyd Wright Visitor Center to the property, so guests will not be able to leave during the tour.

Tours will run rain or shine. Except for the house, most of the buildings on the Taliesin estate do not have heat or air conditioning. We suggest you check the forecast and dress appropriately for the weather as our tours go out regardless of conditions.

The meeting location is the Frank Lloyd Wright Visitor Center at 5607 County Rd. C, Spring Green, WI. Please arrive 20 minutes prior to your ticket departure time (15 minutes for the Estate Tour) to collect your tickets. From there, you will board one of our Taliesin shuttle buses, which will leave promptly at their scheduled tour times.

We offer a variety of tours which vary by duration and sights seen. While there is some overlap in terms of the areas seen, each tour is very different. In general, our most popular tours are the Highlights Tour and House Tour, which run the most often. Our 4-hour Estate Tour is the most comprehensive tour of Taliesin and is offered once daily. If you are short on time, consider taking the Highlights Tour, which combines overviews of both Taliesin and Hillside. Please refer to our tour page for our daily tour schedule and to learn more about our tour offerings.

Advance purchase is strongly recommended, as space is limited per tour. To maximize your chances of getting the tour, day, and time you prefer, please book well in advance. Tickets can be purchased using a Visa, Mastercard, Discover, or American Express online or over the phone during business hours (Apple and Google Pay is available for online purchases). When you arrive, you will collect your tickets in the gift shop. Please call for same-day reservations.

Yes, the value of the tour can be applied to other tours. Please call us at 608-588-7900 to book a discounted tour with your membership card.
