A rare opportunity to hear live cello music in one of the most intimate and beautiful spaces designed by Frank Lloyd Wright – his personal living room at Taliesin. Mike Block is a cello player, singer, and composer and a Grammy Award-winning member of the Silk Road Ensemble. Block’s solo show features a mixture of original compositions and songs, arrangements of traditional folk music, and classical selections that draw inspiration from his diverse collaborations with artists such as cellist Yo-Yo Ma, fiddler Mark O’Connor, Indian tabla player Sandeep Das, and pop stars such as will.i.am, Stevie Wonder, and Bon Iver. www.MikeBlockMusic.com
The evening will begin with a welcome drink in Wright’s remarkable drafting studio. Guests will transition to the living room for a 60-minute solo performance, followed by a wine and beer reception with the artist.
In addition to composing and performing, Mike Block is passionate about Frank Lloyd Wright’s architecture. Wright’s love of music is well-known, and his living room was historically used for private performances. The elegant space features a music corner with a quartet stand, concert grand piano, and profound acoustics. We anticipate a magical evening and collaboration.
