Landscape Tour

Duration - 2 hours

1st Friday of each month, May - October - 10:00 a.m.

$30 per person ($25 seniors, students, military)

Created by staff historian Keiran Murphy, this 2-hour tour focuses on the exterior landscape of the Taliesin estate. Areas of discussion will include Wright’s architecture in relation to the landscape, early farming techniques, and how the estate is used agriculturally today. This tour will get visitors closer to Midway Barns than on any other tour, in order to show guests how Wright used the building. This tour is entirely outdoors so that guests may experience the beautiful landscape which inspired Wright.

Preservation Tour

Duration - 2.5 hours

2nd Friday of each month, May - October - 10:00 a.m.

$57 per person ($52 seniors, students, military)

This tour is for the architectural enthusiast as well as those interested in “behind-the-scenes” information on the preservation work at Taliesin. The focus will be on materials and construction both past and present, while addressing changes made to ensure the endurance of Wright’s architecture.

This 2½-hour tour begins with an introductory presentation at the Visitor Center with professor/architect Sidney Robinson, and TPI’s Estate Manager Jim Erickson. Guests will then depart on a shuttle to visit specific places on the estate in which preservation work has been completed, is ongoing or is scheduled to begin. The tour is limited to 14 people to ensure that each guest gets an up-close and personal experience.

Exploring Taliesin Tour

Duration - 2 hours

3rd Friday of each month, May - September - 4:30 p.m.

$57 per person ($52 seniors, students, military)

This new interactive tour focuses not on history or “stories,” but on large- and small-scale elements of Taliesin and how they contribute to a unique experience. Beginning with the visual component, guests will be encouraged to share their reactions to what they see, allowing them to come to a better understanding of Wright’s architecture through their own experience of the structure.

Created by professor/architect Sidney Robinson, this 2-hour tour is offered in the late afternoon so as to capture Taliesin in the most effective lighting. Leisurely in pace, the tour allows guests to spend time in the Garden Court, Wright’s Drafting Studio, and Living Room. Time will be taken to appreciate how both small and large elements of the architecture contribute to the unique qualities of Wright's designs. This tour is limited to 14 people to ensure that each guest gets an up-close and personal experience. Some basic understanding of Wright’s career is assumed.

Loving Frank Tour

Duration - 2 hours

4th Friday of each month, May - October - 10:00 a.m.

$57 per person ($52 seniors, students, military)

This two-hour tour is an intimate look at Taliesin from Mamah Borthwick’s point of view in Nancy Horan's best-selling book, Loving Frank. Visitors will experience those parts of Taliesin described in the book, and how they relate today to what existed from 1911 to 1914. The tour includes readings from the book by our professional staff while visitors enjoy Wright's living room, with a stop at the Unity Chapel cemetery to see Mamah's final resting place at the end of the tour.

We at Taliesin Preservation, Inc. thank Nancy Horan for telling a wonderful, well-researched story, and bringing widespread attention to this beautiful home and valley in Spring Green, Wisconsin. In addition, Ms. Horan volunteered her time with us in 2008 for a onetime Loving Frank tour at Taliesin. Due to the continued interest in the book, we have created a regular Loving Frank tour available once a month during our regular season.

If the Loving Frank tour doesn't fit your schedule, check out the House Tour.
