Wright in the Classroom - School Visitation Program
Spring 2012
This program was established in 2008 to extend TPI's mission of educating the public about Frank Lloyd Wright's architectural ideas, and his historical significance as an architect. This program started in the classrooms of the local River Valley 4th-grade school district. Through successful grant funding, it has expanded to include Sauk-Prairie, Richland Center, Dodgeville and Mineral Point schools. The program includes:
- Historical information on Wright that enhances the 4th grade study of Wisconsin History.
- A 45-60-minute classroom PowerPoint presentation and activities. Students are encouraged to participate in writing and art projects focusing on architecture, design and nature. The program meets several DPI standards for the 4th grade in geography, research, writing and geometric concepts.
- Each year in May, participating schools visit the Hillside Studio and Theater complex on the Taliesin estate. They are led on interactive tours of the building (designed by Wright), as well as various activities based on Wright's architectural concepts.
