Wright 4 Kids! Free Children's Event

“WRIGHT 4 KIDS: EXPLORING HILLSIDE” : FREE CHILDREN'S EVENT AT FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT’S HILLSIDE SCHOOL IN SPRING GREEN SCHEDULED FOR SATURDAY, JULY 17

SPRING GREEN, WISCONSIN, July 2010 – Taliesin Preservation, Inc. will be hosting a free architectural event for children at the Hillside School, offering kid-friendly tours of this National Historic Landmark, model-building, fun with geometric blocks and art activities geared toward children ages 5–12. Hillside School is part of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesin estate and currently the summer headquarters for the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture. Wright 4 Kids will take place on Saturday, July 17 with pre-registration for the morning or afternoon sessions: 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.

Wright 4 Kids is designed to educate and engage children by teaching them about Frank Lloyd Wright, architecture, nature, observation and other inspirational arts. Taliesin Preservation, Inc. employees and freelance artists will be on-site to lead the activities. Wright 4 Kids was made possible through generous funding provided by the Alliant Energy Foundation and in-kind donations from Culvers, Subway and the Riverview Terrace Cafe.

“A small interior world of color and form now came within the grasp of small fingers,” said Frank Lloyd Wright of himself as a child discovering Froebel blocks, geometric wooden cubes that helped develop his passion for architecture and organic abstraction. Volunteers from Monona Terrace will be leading a Froebel Block activity, and a professional model-builder will display his work and help children build their own model of a Wright building. Taliesin tour guides will lead kid-friendly tours of the Hillside building, where Frank Lloyd Wright’s organic architectural philosophy is prominent. The rough stone, massive oak beams, and rows of windows, connect the building to nature from the inside out. It was begun in 1902 by Frank Lloyd Wright as a boarding school run by his aunts, and has served as an educational structure for over 100 years. All activities will take place at assigned stations within the Hillside School. Participants will also enjoy art activities, beverages, snacks and giveaways!

Advance registration is required for Wright 4 Kids, as there is a maximum capacity for this event. Children must be accompanied by an adult (maximum two adults per group). Adults must be accompanied by children ages 5-12 to attend. To register, please call (877) 588-7900 ext. 221 or 226. For more information, email: info@taliesinpreservation.org.
