New Tour Offered at Taliesin: The Loving Frank Tour
SPRING GREEN, WI, MAY 2010 - Taliesin Preservation, Inc. (TPI), in Spring Green, Wisconsin, is pleased to announce the addition of the Loving Frank tour to their diverse tour program. This two-hour tour is an intimate look at Taliesin from Mamah Borthwick’s point of view in the novel Loving Frank. Visitors will experience those parts of Taliesin described in the book, and how they relate today to what existed from 1911 to 1914. The tour includes readings from the book by our professional staff while visitors enjoy Wright's living room, with a stop at the Unity Chapel cemetery to see Mamah's final resting place at the end of the tour.
Loving Frank, by Nancy Horan, was published in August 2007 to great interest and acclaim. The book captures Taliesin through the eyes of Mamah Borthwick Cheney, Frank Lloyd Wright’s mistress and some say, the love of his life. The book is a brilliant blend of fact and fiction, weaving the facts of their love story and its tragic conclusion into a compelling narrative, and illuminating Cheney’s profound influence on Wright. Wright did not speak about this tragedy during his life, but he did write eloquently of his pain and anguish in his autobiography, which is still in print.
Happily for TPI, this novel has brought attention and interest to Frank Lloyd Wright’s home, Taliesin. In addition, the book’s publication has elicited many questions about Wright, Mamah Borthwick, and Taliesin. TPI thanks Nancy Horan for telling a wonderful, well-researched story, and bringing widespread attention to this beautiful home and valley.
The Loving Frank tour departs at 10:00 a.m. on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of each month, May through October. The cost is $57 per person ($52 for seniors, students, and military). Reservations are highly recommended and may be placed by calling 1-877-588-7900. Children under 12 are not allowed on this tour.
